Instructions for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

Manuscripts should be submitted to Beverly Falk, Editor, The New Educator, School of Education, The City of College of New York, Convent Avenue at 138th Street, New York, NY, 10031, E-mail: bfalk@ccny.cuny.edu. Manuscripts should be prepared using MS Word and should not exceed 6500 words. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Please number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper.

Each manuscript should include a cover sheet containing the author's name, affiliation, position, preferred mailing address, telephone number(s), fax number, and e-mail address. All other pages should have a running head (not exceeding 50 character spaces) and page number. Identifying information should not appear elsewhere in the manuscript in order to ensure an impartial review.

Please include an abstract of no more than 100 words. Manuscripts, including figures, tables, and references, must conform to the specifications described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. Tables, illustrations, photos, and figures are encouraged.

Authors are requested to submit one copy of the manuscript electronically (prepared using MS Word) as an email attachment. The submitted manuscript should be clearly labeled with the author's last name and the running head of the manuscript. The cover sheet and all figures, charts, photographs, or work samples should be saved as separate files, with the file names indicated on the disk.

For further information on electronic submission, including information on accepted file types, please click here.

Tables and Figures

All illustrations, tables, figures, and charts should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. Any original figures submitted should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be submitted as separate files, not embedded in the text. They should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost incurred in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00; the next three color pages are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
