Instructions for Authors
PARTICULATE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Scope
Particulate Science and Technology: An International Journal publishes original research papers and selected review articles of the very highest quality subject to rigorous peer review procedures. The journal addresses all aspects of science and engineering related to particles and particle systems from millimeter to nanometer sizes. Topics include particle formation and production, particle and particle system characterization, fluidized beds, multiphase flows, storage flow, conveying, handling, electrography, image processing, pattern recognition, mixing, segregation, separation, agglomeration, compaction, powder coating and electrosprays, microencapsulation, explosion and fire hazards, aerosols, pollution control, industrial hygiene, contamination control, lung deposition, agricultural and food powders, ceramics, chemicals, minerals, pharmaceuticals, powdered metals. The journal also features such items as critical reviews, historical and biographical reports, technical notes, letters to the editor, technical columns on a variety of topics, book reviews, conference reports, and news items.
How to Submit a Manuscript
Length:
The maximum length of a paper should be 20 typed, double-spaced pages for submission.
Organization:
manuscripts usually consist of these parts: title, authors' names and institutional affiliations, abstract, introduction, body, conclusions, references, figures, and tables. Appendixes, acknowledgments, and a list of symbols are sometimes desirable. The title should briefly and clearly cover the subject of the paper. An abstract (of about 200 words) should be self-explanatory and summarize the paper's essential points.
The introduction should spell out the problem, briefly review pervious work, and state the purpose and significance of the paper.
The body, which gives the primary message of the paper in detail, may be broken down into sections. The contributions of the authors should be clearly stated. Appropriate figures and tables may be used to amplify the text discussion. Each should be numbered consecutively, using Arabic numerals (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2, Table 1, Table 2, etc.). All figures and tables must be referred to in numerical order (i.e., do not refer to Figure 3 before Figure 2). use Times Roman 11-point font for the text.
The conclusion should point out the significance of the work, its limitations and advantages, applications of the results, and recommendations for further work. Acknowledgments, if any, should occur directly after the conclusion.
References to cited literature should be referred to in the text by a number enclosed in square brackets. Place the reference list at the end of the paper, organized in numerical order of appearance. Use The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th edition, as a guide to formatting references. References to unpublished work or to work not properly indexed should not be used.

Transfer of Copyright
All papers accepted for publication must be accompanied by a copyright release form signed by the author. This form is available from the editor.
Preparation and Submission of Manuscript and Illustrations
The complete paper must be typed, double-spaced, with about 1 ½" left and 1" right margins. the entire text, except the abstract, should be divided into sections and numbered using the decimal system. manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively. At the review stage, neatly drawn sketches are acceptable for line illustrations; legible copies of any photographs to be used should be included. Four-color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involving their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1200. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than four text pages, are $500 each. Good quality color prints should be provided, in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable. Be sure that every figure has a brief descriptive legend and that every table has a concise title. Submit three paper copies and an electronic copy of the complete manuscript to: Dr. M. K. Mazumder, University Professor, Co-Editor-in-Chief, Particulate Science and Technology, Department of Applied Science, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, ETAS Bldg., Room 575, 2801 S. University, Little Rock, AR 72204. Telephone: (501) 569-807; Fax: (501) 569-8020; E-mail: Mazumder@ualr.edu or Professor Virendra M. Puri, Co-Editor-in-Chief, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, 249 Agricultural Engineering Building, University Park, PA, 16802, USA.
Review and Final Acceptance
All manuscripts will be subjected to rigorous peer review procedures. The manuscripts, with reviewer(s) suggestions and comments, will be returned to the author(s), who will then be required to get the revised manuscript typed, single-spaced, following special instructions provided by the editor. Line illustrations must be clearly drawn in India ink on good quality white paper or vellum. Labels must be large enough to be readable. Either the original drawing or a good quality photographic print should be put into place in the text. Photographs should be good quality black and white glossies, planned to occupy not more than ½ of a page; suggested maximum size is 4" x 4". Proper space should be allowed for in the manuscript, with the caption typed below; the photo itself should be provided in a separate envelope with the figure number and top of the photo clearly marked on its back. The publisher reserves the right to reject art and request new artwork. The author(s) are responsible for proofreading and for the technical accuracy of the paper. All final manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Please submit two original copies, one with page numbers and one without page numbers.
Offprints
An offprint order form will accompany proofs. It should be completed and returned with proofs. Corresponding authors will receive one complimentary copy of the issue.
