Instructions for Authors

Aim and Scope

The Journal of Constructivist Psychology is the first publication to provide a professional forum for such diverse expressions of constructivism as personal construct theory, radical constructivism, social constructionism, narrative psychology, and postmodern psychology. The journal publishes articles highlighting theoretical, empirical, and methodological developments in constructivist and social constructionist scholarship, as well as constructivist and social constructionist contributions to professional practice in areas such as psychotherapy, education, and industry.

Submission of Manuscripts

All manuscripts are to be submitted as email attachments in MS Word format to j.construct.psych@gmail.com. The subject line of the email should read “Submission: Running Head,” where “Running Head” is the paper's proposed running head. Two (2) versions of the paper should be included as attachments. The first version should include author names, addresses, emails, and other identifying information on the cover page only. The second version must exclude this identifying information to allow for blind review.

Manuscripts, including tables, figures, and references, should be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (Fifth Edition, 2000), which can be purchased at http://www.apa.org/books/4200060.html.  Manuscripts should generally not exceed 5000 words, although the editors may consider longer papers when effective expression of the ideas being addressed requires it. Manuscripts also must include a summary abstract of no more that 100 words. They must be double-spaced, formatted for US size letter paper, and have margins of at least 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) on all sides. The title page should contain a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, which must not exceed 50 character spaces. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. All manuscript pages must be numbered consecutively.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

In keeping with APA Style, tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Proofs

One set of page proofs will be sent to the designated author. Proofs should be checked and returned within 48 hours.

Reprints

Each corresponding author of an article will receive one complimentary copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
