Instructions for Authors

ScholarOne Manuscripts
This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.

Submission of Manuscripts. Marine Geodesy receives all manuscript submissions electronically via their ScholarOne Manuscripts website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/UMGD.  ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. ScholarOne Manuscripts technical support can be accessed via http://scholarone.com/services/support/. If you have any other requests please contact the journal's editor at marinegeodesy@osu.edu.

Affiliation. On the title page include full names of authors; academic and/or professional affiliations; and the complete mailing address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent.

References. Within-text citations should be cited by author(s) and date in parentheses. Full citations are required and should be arranged alphabetically. For further information, consult the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed.

Journal Article: Schwiderski, E.W. 1980. Ocean tides: I. Global ocean tidal equations: Ocean tides: II: A hydrodynamical interpolation model. Mar. Geod. 3:1–14.

Book: Lisitzin, E. 1974. Sea level changes. Elsevier Oceanographic Series, Vol. 8. New York: Elsevier Scientific.

Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color Reproduction. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for print reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are paid. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print. Rates for color art reproduction are:  Print Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 for each of the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than 4 pages of color.

Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Page Proofs. All proofs must be corrected and returned to the publisher within 48 hours of receipt. If the manuscript is not returned within the allotted time, the editor will proofread the article and it will be printed per his instruction. Only correction of typographical errors is permitted. The author will be charged for additional alterations to text at the proof stage.

Reprints. Each corresponding author of the article will receive one complete copy of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of an individual article are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
