Aims & Scope

Published monthly, Heat Transfer Engineering is an unparalleled resource for key advances in the field of heat transfer for the practicing engineer and other workers in this field. In a clear, easy-to- read format, the journal includes refereed papers of original work, state-of-the-art reviews, articles on new developments in equipment or practices, reviews of fundamentals, heat in history articles, book reviews, news items on people and companies in the field, announcements of meetings and educational programs, directories of companies offering equipment or services, advertising, and any other items that may be appropriate.

Submission of Manuscripts

Four copies of the manuscript should be sent with a cover letter to Dr. Afshin J. Ghajar, School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, 218 Engineering North, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK 74078-5016; E-mail: afshin.ghajar@okstate.edu. The manuscript must be in its final form. Please retain original figures until the review process has been completed. Authors should submit manuscripts on disk if possible. The disk should be prepared using MS Word and PDF format and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All manuscripts must be typed double-spaced on only one side of the paper, in single column with 12 point font size, and with margins of at least 2.54 cm all around. These instructions can be obtained from the journal's web page at http://www.informaworld.com/openurl?genre=journal&issn=0145-7632 under Instructions for Authors.

Title, Authors, and Affiliations. Page 1 of the paper should contain a brief, clear, and descriptive article title of 10–12 words; the names and institutional affiliations of all authors; and the name, complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the person to whom all correspondence and proofs should be sent.

Abstract. Every paper must have an abstract of 100–200 words.

Introduction. The introduction should explain the purpose of the study, cite relevant work, and describe objectives. Body. The body presents the details of the study. It may be broken down into several sections, which should be identified by descriptive headings that are not numbered. Appropriate figures and tables should be used to amplify the discussion.

Examples. Where appropriate, include examples of worked-out problems that show practical applications of the paper.

Conclusions. Point out the significance of the work, its limitations and advantages, applications of the results, and further work that should be done.

Nomenclature. A separate nomenclature section af-ter the conclusion should list the symbols used in the manuscript, their definitions, and their units in metric or dual systems of units (metric and English). The nomenclature list should be in alphabetical order with Greek symbols following the alphabetical listing. Subscripts and superscripts should follow Greek symbols and should be identified with a heading.

Equations. All symbols in equations must be clear; mark unconvetional and ambiguous symbols or requirements.

Footnotes. Any footnotes of acknowledgement or author identification will appear on the opening page of the paper, not keyed with symbols (†‡§) per page.

Spelling. Follow Merriam Webster's Colletiate Dictionary.

References. References are cited in the text in numerical sequence according to their order of appearance. The text citations are indicated by full-sized numbers enclosed inbrackets. The references are listed in numerical order in a separate section at the end of the paper, styled as follows:

Illustrations and Figures

Each illustration should be on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Submitted illustrations (line drawings, halftones, photographs, photomicorgraphs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Number each consecutively with single Arabic numerals; briefly and descriptively title each and refer to it in the text. Figure captions should be typed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Draw line illustrations in India ink on good-quality white paper or vellum; clearly label ordinates and abscissa. Computer- generated figures are acceptable as long as all lines and graph points are distinct (not too fine or faint). Photographs should be sharp black and white glossies.

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables

Each table should be typed on a separate page and be placed at the end of the manuscript. Number each consecutively with single Arabic numerals; briefly and descriptively title each and refer to it in the text. Table footnotes should be keyed by superscript lower case letters.

Biographical Information

For each author, include a photograph and a brief biographical sketch.

Units. Data should be reported in SI units or both SI and English units; give SI values first.

Symbols.

Use standard symbols whenever possible.

Proofs and Author's Alterations.

One set of page proofs is sent to the specified author. Please check them carefully and return them promptly. Authors will be charged for excessive proof changes.

Reprints

Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
