Heat Transfer Engineering
Instructions for Authors
Aims & Scope. Published fourteen times per year, Heat Transfer Engineering is an unparalleled resource for key advances in the field of heat transfer for the practicing engineer and other workers in this field. In a clear, easy-to-read format, the journal includes refereed papers of original work, state-of-the-art reviews, articles on new developments in equipment or practices, reviews of fundamentals, heat in history articles, book reviews, news items on people and companies in the field, announcements of meetings and educational programs, directories of companies offering equipment or services, advertising, and any other items that may be appropriate.
Submission of Manuscripts. Manuscript files (in MS Word and PDF format) should be electronically sent to the editor-in-chief, Dr. Afshin J. Ghajar at afshin.ghajar@okstate.edu, or mailed to him at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, 218 Engineering North, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK 74078-5016. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All manuscripts must be typed double spaced on only one side of the paper, in single column with 12 point font size, and with margins of at least 2.54 cm all around. All pages of the manuscript must be numbered. These instructions can be obtained from the journal's web page at http://www.informaworld.com/openurl?genre=journal&issn=0145-7632 under Instructions for Authors.
Title, Authors, and Affiliations. Page 1 of the paper should contain a brief, clear, and descriptive article title of 10–12 words; the names and institutional affiliations of all authors; and the name, complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the person to whom all correspondence and proofs should be addressed, and the abstract for the paper.
Abstract. Every paper must have an abstract of 100–200words. The abstract should be only one paragraph. Do not include equations, symbols, or reference numbers in the abstract.
Introduction. The introduction should explain the purpose of the study, cite relevant work, and describe objectives.
Body. The body presents the details of the study. It may be broken down into several sections, which should be identified by descriptive, unnumbered headings (do not use section or sub-section numbers). Appropriate figures and tables should be used to amplify the discussion.
Examples. Where appropriate, include examples of worked-out problems that show practical applications of the paper.
Conclusions. Point out the significance of the work, its limitations and advantages, applications of the results, and further work that should be done.
Nomenclature. A separate nomenclature section after the conclusions should list the symbols used in the manuscript, their definitions, and their units in metric or dual systems of units (metric and English). The nomenclature list should be in alphabetical order with Greek symbols following the alphabetical listing. Subscripts and superscripts should follow Greek symbols and be identified with a heading.
Equations. Number each equation consecutively with single Arabic numerals with the number enclosed inside prentices. All symbols in equations must be clear. Use only convectional symbols.
Footnotes. Any footnotes of acknowledgement or author identification will appear on the opening page of the paper.
References. References are cited in the text in numerical sequence according to their order of appearance. The in text citations are indicated by full-sized numbers enclosed in brackets, e.g. [1]. The author(s)- number method is also acceptable, e.g., for one author, Kandlikar [6], for two authors, Ghajar and Tam[3], and for multiple authors, Suitor et al. [5]. The references are listed in numerical order in a separate section after the nomenclature, styled as follows:

Figures. Each figure should be placed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Submitted figures should be digital files, and for highest quality reproduction, should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
Number each consecutively with single Arabic numerals; briefly and descriptively title each and refer to it in the text. Figure captions should be typed on a separate page and placed before the fist figure. Make sure all figures (photos and illustrations) used in the manuscript are in black and white unless you are willing to pay the charges for color reproduction.
Color Reproduction. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only conversion and reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are:
Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for each of the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies.
Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than 4 pages of color.
Tables. Each table should be typed on a separate page and be placed after the references section. Number each consecutively with single Arabic numerals; briefly and descriptively title each and refer to it in the text. Table footnotes should be keyed by superscript lower case letters.
Biographical Information. For each author, include a photograph and a brief biographical sketch and place it at the end of the manuscript.
Units. Data should be reported in SI units or both SI and English units; give SI values first.
Symbols. Use standard symbols whenever possible.
Proofs andAuthor's Alterations. One set of page proofs is sent to the specified author. Please check them carefully and return approval or corrections promptly. Authors will be charged for excessive proof changes.
Reprints. Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
