Instructions for Authors
Submission of Manuscripts. Educational Gerontology is a journal of research and practice. The journal publishes and disseminates only papers which report original research. Rarely do we publish reviews of the literature per se which report, not original research, but previously completed research. Effective July 1, 20l0, we will not peer review for publication manuscripts exceeding 20 double-spaced manuscript pages, excluding abstracts, illustrations, acknowledgments, tables and figures. Manuscripts exceeding this length will be returned to the author(s) for the author-mandated editorial reduction of length. Educational Gerontology copyedits manuscripts prior to their pre-publication distribution for peer review by external readers; therefore, we do not accept manuscripts in pdf format. In the Discussion section of the manuscript, insert a description of the implications of your concept and/or practice proposal that will make it generalizable to readers in other cultural/geographic regions. Originals of each manuscript should be electronically submitted to ninilanger@gmail.com.
Authors are required to submit manuscripts by e-mail. Files should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as ‘‘derivative reproduction'' (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of 150–250 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.
Manuscripts, including figures, tables, and references, must conform to the specifications described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed., 2009). Manuscripts that do not adhere to this style will be returned for revision.
Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
-
300 dpi or higher
-
sized to fit on journal page
-
EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
-
submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color Reproduction. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will also be considered for print publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Please note that color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are paid. Print Rates: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Proofs. One set of page proofs is sent to the designated corresponding author. Proofs should be checked and returned promptly.
Reprints. Reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Rightslink. A link to the ordering form is included at the proofs stage.
Complimentary Policy. Authors for whom we receive a valid email address will be provided an opportunity to purchase reprints of individual articles, or copies of the complete print issue. These authors will also be given complimentary access to their final article on Taylor & Francis Online.
