Instructions for Authors

ScholarOne Manuscripts
This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.

Aims and Scope: The Bilingual Research Journal (BRJ) covers a wide range of topics relating to bilingual education, bilingualism in society, and language policy in education.

Submissions are encouraged from scholars and practitioners in a wide range of areas: assessment, biliteracy, indigenous language, language planning, language politics, multilingualism, pedagogical approaches, policy analysis, second language acquisition. BRJ editorial policy reflects the intrinsic and inherent value of bilingualism, biliteracy, and linguistic democracy.

The BRJ accepts manuscripts written in English or Spanish. Articles written in Spanish need not be translated, although a two-page abstract in English is requested.

Address Manuscripts to the Editor: Manuscripts should be addressed to the Editors when submissions are made via the ScholarOne Manuscripts website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/UBRJ. ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. For ScholarOne Manuscripts technical support, you may contact them by e-mail or phone support via http://scholarone.com/services/support/. If you have any other requests please contact the journal at BRJ@austin.utexas.edu. The preferred format for electronic file submissions is MS Word. Please include on the title page of your submission your most recent mailing address, phone number, fax number, and e-mail address where you may be reached.

Book reviews should be from 5 to 7 pages double-spaced, including references, and also can be submitted electronically through ScholarOne. Please follow the guidelines for book reviews. If you have any other questions, please contact the Book Review Editor, Minda Lopez at minda.lopez@txstate.edu

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted materialfromother sources andare required tosign anagreement for thetransfer ofcopyright to the publisher. As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

Format. The editors request that manuscripts be a maximum of 30 computer-produced pages, double spaced, in 12-point type, using 8.5 by 11 inch paper, with one inch margins all around.

All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words and three or four key words provided. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract.

References. References, citations, and general style of manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the APA Publication Manual, 6th ed.

Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

- 300 dpi or higher
- Sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color Illustrations. Color art will be reproduced in color in the online publication at no additional cost to the author. Color illustrations will also be considered for print publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Please note that color reprints can only be ordered if print reproduction costs are pade. Print Rates: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi will not be considered for print.

Tables and Figures. Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction.

Proofs. Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). They must be carefully checked and returned within 48 hours of receipt.

Reprints and Issues. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication. Each corresponding author will receive 1 complete issue in which the article publishes and a complimentary PDF. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
