General guidelines

  1. Papers will be reformatted from authors' typescripts which must be supplied electronically and on paper. Proofs will be printed and the final responsibility for accuracy rests with the author(s).
  2. English is the preferred language, but papers may be submitted in French, with an English abstract, English keywords and an English translation of the title, which will be included in the publication.
  3. All submissions by non-native English speakers should take special care with the English in their papers and aim to have their texts edited by a proficient English speaker before submitting them to the Journal. Please see the Resources for Authors page for a range of editing and language polishing sites
  4. Contributions may be up to 8,000 word equivalent and should be typed in a clear script and double spaced, with 1.5 cm margins all round. Items that are usually italicised may be typed as italics or underlined. A maximum of 5 Figures is suggested.
  5. Manuscripts should be compiled in the following order: title page; abstract; keywords; main text; acknowledgments; references; table(s) with caption(s) (on individual pages); figure caption(s) (as a list); appendices (as appropriate).
  6. All the authors of a paper should include their full names, affiliations, postal addresses and email addresses on the cover page of the manuscript. One author should be identified as the Corresponding Author. This author will also need to provide a fax number and an Email address.
  7. Abstracts of no more than 250 words are required for all papers submitted.
  8. Authors must adhere to SI units. Units are not italicised
  9. Keywords, a maximum of 5 keywords which identify the main points in the paper
  10. Chemical nomenclature should conform to the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) rules
  11. When using a word which is or is asserted to be a proprietary term or trade mark, authors must use the symbol ® or ™.

Figures

We welcome figures sent electronically, but care and attention to these guidelines are essential as importing graphics packages can often be problematic.

  •          Figures must be saved individually and separate to text. Please do not embed figures in the paper file.
  •          Avoid the use of colour and tints for purely aesthetic reasons.
  •          Figures should be produced as near to the finished size as possible.
  •          All figures must be numbered in the order in which they appear in the paper (e.g. figure 1, figure 2). In multi-part figures, each part should be labelled (e.g. figure 1(a), figure 1(b)).
  •          Figure captions must be saved separately, as part of the file containing the complete text of the paper, and numbered correspondingly.
  •        The filename for the graphic should be descriptive of the graphic, e.g. Figure1, Figure2a.
  •       Files should be saved as one of the following formats: TIFF (tagged image file format), PostScript or EPS (encapsulated PostScript), and should contain all the necessary font information and the source file of the application (e.g. CorelDraw/Mac, CorelDraw/PC).

Please note that it is in the author's interest to provide the highest quality figure format possible. Please do not hesitate to contact our Production Department if you have any queries.

Supplementary online material
Authors are welcome to submit animations, movie files, sound files or any additional information for online publication.

Information about supplementary online material

Reproduction of copyright material

Contributors are required to secure permission for the reproduction of any figure, table or extensive extract (more than fifty words) from the text of a source that is copyrighted or owned by a party other than Taylor & Francis or the contributor. This applies to direct reproduction as well as 'derivative reproduction', where the contributor has created a new figure or table that derives substantially from a copyrighted source. Authors are themselves responsible for the payment of any permission fees required by the copyright owner. Copies of permission letters should be scanned and uploaded with the manuscript upon submission to the Editor(s).

Submission of manuscripts All submissions should be made online at the Environmental Technology Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.

The publishers reserve the right to adjust the position of tables, figures, formulae and photographs to ensure page economy.

Authors will be asked to nominate three referees who are recognised in the appropriate field to review their work in order to complete submission of their manuscript.

Please note that all submitting authors will be requested to pick the appropriate Editor for their paper at submission stage from a drop down menu which will be the same as the list below.

Copyright and authors' rights

It is a condition of publication that authors assign copyright or license the publication rights in their articles, including abstracts, to Taylor & Francis. This enables us to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the Journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Authors retain many rights under the Taylor & Francis rights policies, which can be found at www.informaworld.com/authors_journals_copyright_position. Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.

Exceptions are made for authors of Crown or US Government employees whose policies require that copyright cannot be transferred to other parties. We ask that a signed statement to this effect is submitted when returning proofs for accepted papers.

Reprints

Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (http://www.informaworld.com/). Reprints of articles published in the Journal can be purchased through Rightslink® when proofs are received. If you have any queries, please contact our reprints department at reprints@tandf.co.uk.
