ScholarOne Manuscripts
This journal uses ScholarOne Manuscripts (previously Manuscript Central) to peer review manuscript submissions. Please read the guide for ScholarOne authors before making a submission. Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your manuscript to this journal are provided below.

Instructions for Authors:

The Scandinavian Journal of History presents articles on Scandinavian and general history and review essays surveying themes in recent Scandinavian historical research. The Editors concentrate on publishing perspectives on national historical particularities and on important long-term and short-term developments.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION
Manuscripts must be submitted via the Journal's ScholarOne Manuscripts site. You will be required to create an account before being able to submit your paper.

The manuscript must be in English, and must not exceed 11,000 words, including the Introduction and list of references. Two versions must be submitted via ScholarOne in .doc(x) format: an anonymous version containing the title, abstract, text of the article and bibliography only, and a full version including a title page with the author's name and affiliation, and a short author biography and contact details.

Begin each of the following sections on separate pages:

  1. Title page and Introduction:
    a) Title of the article, author's name and affiliation.
    b) A short introduction describing the main content of the article.
  2. List of references
  3. Biographical information/Vitae.
    a) Author's name and current position.
    b) Biographical information.
    c) Author's current address including e-mail address.
  4. Tables
  5. Figures
  6. Figure captions.

ENDNOTES AND REFERENCES
References should normally be given in short form in the endnotes as follows:

  1. Smith, East Towards Home, 34.
  2. Jones, 'Title of Article', 948.

For subsequent references in the notes, Ibid. may be used, but avoid the use of op. cit.

If a separate list of references is included, type the entries in alphabetical order of surname, following the Chicago Manual of Style (15th ed.):

Book
Blackfoot, Emery. Chance Encounters. Boston: Serendipity Press, 1987.

Chapter in edited book
Kaiser, Ernest. 'The Literature of Harlem'. In Harlem: A Community in Transition, edited by J. H. Clarke, 199-213. New York: Citadel Press, 1964.

Periodicals
Benjoseph, John J. 'On the Anticipation of New Metaphors'. Cuyahoga Review 24 (1988): 6-10.

TABLES
Type each table, double-spaced on a separate sheet. Number tables consecutively in Arabic numerals and give each a short descriptive heading.

FIGURES
Consider all illustrations as figures and number them consecutively in arabic numerals. Submit photographs as near to the printed size as possible. If a figure has been published previously, acknowledge the original source and submit written permission from the copyright holder to reproduce it. Format graphic elements as separate files in EPS or TIFF. Resolution of photographs must be at least 300 dpi. Glossy photocopies or good quality hard copies are preferred rather than low-resolution electronic files.

COPYRIGHT

Authors must return to the publisher a signed copy of the copyright form for this journal. This form will be sent to the authors as a PDF file for printing out and signing or is available from the publisher.

PROOFS AND OFFPRINTS
Proofs will be sent as a PDF file to the corresponding author. If any corrections are to be made these should be marked on a printed version of the file and returned with least possible delay. Authors will be liable to pay for any alterations that they make which are not due to printer's errors. Twenty-five offprints of each article will be supplied free of charge. Additional offprints can be ordered by filling out the form accompanying the proofs. The article cannot be published until the publisher has received the signed Copyright Assignment form.

iOpenAccess

Authors whose manuscripts have been accepted for publication in certain journals have the option to pay a one-off fee to make their article free to read online via the journal website. Choosing this option also allows authors to post their article in an institutional or subject repository immediately upon publication.
