Patterns of Prejudice
Instructions for Authors
Notes for Contributors
The editors welcome submission of articles for publication in Patterns of Prejudice. They should be a maximum of 7,000 (excluding notes), although longer articles are sometimes considered. Articles should be submitted electronically as e-mail attachments, and sent to Barbara Rosenbaum at b.rosenbaum@dsl.pipex.com. All articles must be the author's original work. Submissions should be accompanied by a covering letter confirming that the article is not being considered for publication elsewhere. Please address all queries to Barbara Rosenbaum, Patterns of Prejudice, PO Box 52456, London NW3 9BE, UK.
Authors who do not have native or equivalent proficiency in English are encouraged to have the article read by someone of this proficiency prior to submission. Articles are edited before publication. Apart from minor stylistic changes or alterations to bring the articles into line with house style or for typographical reasons, any major changes will be made only in consultation with the author. Authors may be asked to revise their articles bearing in mind suggestions made by the editors. The final decision on publication, which rests with the editors, will follow an assessment of the article (with the author's name removed) by two external specialists in the subject under discussion. On acceptance, authors will be asked to supply a final version and to sign a copyright agreement.
Manuscripts. All pages and notes should be numbered. Authors should include an abstract (c. 300 words) and between 6-10 keywords. Brief biographical details should also be included, noting present position, academic or professional qualifications and recent or major publications. Contact details (including especially email and snail mail addresses) are also required.
Style. Long quotations—four lines or more—should be displayed as a separate paragraph and without quotation marks. Quotations of less than four lines should be enclosed in single quotation marks; quotations within quotations should be enclosed in double quotation marks. Spell -ize not -ise. Titles of books, journals, newspapers, films and plays should be italicized. Foreign words and phrases, when not quotations from other sources or proper names, should also be italicized. Authors should refer to a recent copy of the journal for further style details, in particular for setting out book details in book review.
Notes. References appear as footnotes on the page of citation, indicated by superior numbers in the text. Bibliographies are not used. First reference to a book or article must include the author's full name, the full title of the publication (italicized/underlined) or article (in single quotation marks, not using capitals except for first word and proper names), the place of publication, publisher and date (in brackets without a comma) and page reference (without p. or pp.). Theses must be in single quotation marks followed by the examining university's name and the date the thesis was submitted and passed. References to websites or webpages should include, where relevant, the author and title of the page (in single quotation marks) and its date, followed by the website (in italics), the URL (without underlining) and the date when the page was viewed (in brackets).
Proofs and offprints. Proofs of articles are sent to authors but no substantial alterations are generally allowed at this stage. All proofs must be returned promptly. On publication, authors of articles receive free online to their article and a complimentary copy of the issue. Reviewers receive a PDF e-print of the review section plus a complimentary copy of the issue.
