Instructions for Authors
The New Review of Children's Literature and Librarianship
Aims and Scope: This is an international journal designed to explore the range of issues of current concern to those working in the field of children's literature around the world: the management of library services to children and adolescents; education issues affecting library services; information technology; user education and the promotion of services; staff education and training; collection development and management; critical assessments of children's and adolescent literature; book and media selection; research in literature and library services for children and adolescents.
The editor will be pleased to consider for publication original manuscripts which deal with any of this broad range of themes. Papers should not have been published previously, or have been submitted elsewhere simultaneously. Papers presented at conferences may be considered if they are unlikely to be published in a conference proceedings volume.
Editor: Dr Sally Maynard, Department of Information Science, Loughborough University, UK
- The title of the paper should be informative. The name, designation, affiliation and postal address of each author should be given in full, including an e-mail address and fax number, where either or both of these exist. The author(s) should only be identified on a separate author/title page, it should not be possible to identify the author(s) within the body of the manuscript (for refereeing purposes). A contact author should be nominated, for editorial correspondence.
- The language of publication is English. Papers should be written for an international audience, adopting a straightforward writing style, and avoiding over-long or complex sentence structures. All papers will be refereed by academics or practitioners who have appropriate experience in the area.
- An abstract of no more than 200 words outlining the scope of the paper and its main results or conclusions should precede the main text. The text should be typed with double-spacing, and be no longer than 7,000 words (excluding references), with numbered pages.
- An advance copy of the paper may be submitted to the editor as an e-mail attachment, but an identical disk version and three paper copies are also required (for refereeing purposes). The document may be submitted in any commonly used word processor format: the preferred format is Word (version 6.0 or later). A plain ASCII version of the text must also be included on the disk. CDs should be used. Where compression is necessary, a common format such as ZIP or STUFFIT should be used.
- In addition to a full version of the paper showing text and graphics integrated, a separate copy of each graphic (figures, tables and illustrations) is required on disk and in a printed version. Only commonly used graphic formats should be used, and preferably TIFF. The printed version of each graphic is required for scanning (in case this may be necessary) and should therefore be of high quality. Graphics should be clear and of good quality, and limited in number to that which is necessary to convey the meaning of the paper.
- Use hard returns at the ends of paragraphs, but not at the end of lines. Leave one line of spacing between all paragraphs.
- All acronyms or abbreviations should be spelt out in full when first used in the text. Footnotes should be avoided.
