Manuscript Submission:

Electronic submission of manuscripts is preferred. Submit one copy of the article in MS Word or WordPerfect and the cover letter to the editor by e-mail (mpees-journal@wmich.edu). Contact numbers: 269-387-2674 (voice), 269-387-2704 (fax). Manuscripts should be submitted electronically, and prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect. Files must be (a) double-spaced, (b) 1,800 to 2,000 characters per page (70 to 75 characters per line [including spaces] × 25 to 27 lines per page), (c) with each element beginning a new page, and (d) in this order—title page and blind-review copy (p. 1), abstract and key words (p. 2), text (including quotations), acknowledgments, references, appendixes, footnotes, tables, and figure captions. Consecutively number all pages (including figures and tables). Indent all paragraphs. To facilitate the review process, line numbers are required on each page. In general, manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages, including abstract, references, tables, and figures.

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

Title Page & Abstract:

On page 1, type (a) article title, (b) author name(s) and affiliation(s), (c) running head (abbreviated title d 48 characters & spaces), and (d) name and address of person to whom requests for reprints should be addressed; because reviews are blind, authors must include a copy of the title page (showing only article title & running head) and must not mention authors, institutions, funding agencies, and so forth in the manuscript (except in the reference list). On page 2, type the abstract (d 150 words) and key words for indexing.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • Sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • Submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures (illustrations) should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Proofs and Reprints

Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). The corresponding author of each article will receive three complimentary copies of the issue in which the article appears. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs. A discount on reprints is available to authors who order before print publication.
