Children's Health Care
Instructions for Authors
Aims and Scope
Children's Health Care publishes empirically-based articles addressing theoretical, clinical, programmatic, training, and professional practice issues relevant to the family-centered, developmental, and psychosocial aspects of children's health care. It also contains substantive and methodological reviews pertaining to these areas. As such, it welcomes articles involving parent-professional collaboration and multidisciplinary efforts including nursing, child life, psychology, social work, and related disciplines. The journal's goal is to establish a strong justification for psychosocial care of children and provide an empirical base for professional applications with children and families interacting with health care settings and personnel.
Submission of Manuscripts:
Contributors should send manuscripts (4 copies) to Kenneth J. Tarnowski, PhD, ABPP, Editor, Children's Health Care, Psychology Program, Florida Gulf Coast University, 10501 FGCU Blvd. South, Fort Myers, FL 33965-6565. Prepare manuscripts according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). Type all components of the manuscript double-spaced, including title page, abstract, text, quotes, acknowledgments, references, appendices, tables, figure captions, and footnotes. A 100-word abstract should be typed on a separate page. Four photocopies of the illustrations and the original illustrations should accompany the manuscript. The final section of the manuscript should be headed “Implications for Practice” with discussion of how the research findings might be applied to clinical practice by various disciplines represented in psychosocial, developmentally appropriate, family-centered care. All manuscripts submitted will be acknowledged promptly. Authors should keep a copy of their manuscripts to guard against loss.
Blind Review:
To facilitate anonymous review, only the article title should appear on the first page of the manuscript. An attached cover page must contain the title; authorship; authors' affiliations; any statements of credit or research support; and mailing addresses, phone numbers, and fax numbers of the authors. Every effort should be made by the authors to see that the manuscript itself contains no clues to their identities.
Permissions:
Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners to reprint or adapt a table or figure or to reprint a quotation of 500 words or more. Authors should write to original author(s) and publisher to request nonexclusive world rights in all languages to use the material in the article and in future editions. Provide copies of all permissions and credit lines obtained.
Regulations:
In a cover letter, authors should state that the findings reported in the manuscript are original and have not been published previously and that the manuscript is not being simultaneously submitted elsewhere. Authors should also state that they have complied with American Psychological Association ethical standards in the treatment of their samples. In recognition of the special vulnerabilities of children as participants in research, authors should fully explain how informed consent was obtained for relevant manuscripts.
Production Notes:
After a manuscript is accepted for publication, its author is asked to provide a computer disk containing the manuscript file. Illustrations should be submitted as digital files and follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files
Proofs
The corresponding author will receive proofs, which should be proofread and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Corrections are limited to printer's errors— no substantial author's changes will be made.
