Instructions for Authors

Quarterly Review of Film and Video accepts manuscripts either online, or through the mail with a text copy, the transfer of copyright form, and text on CD-ROM.

Authors should submit manuscripts on CD-ROM, or as attachments. We prefer 12-pt. type uniformly used throughout all manuscripts. All text attachments should be sent to wdixon@unlserve.unl.edu. Please do not send any illustrations as attachments.

If using a CD-ROM and regular mail, the CD-ROM should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect, in IBM or MAC format, and should be clearly labeled with the author name, file name, and software program. For regular mail submissions, a hard copy printout that exactly matches the CD-ROM must be supplied.

Each manuscript must be accompanied the Author Warranty form, which is downloadable at http://eng-wdixon.unl.edu/qrfv.html. Please fill out the form with title of article, name, date, and institution, and send with manuscript if submitting by regular mail.

If sending an attachment, please fax the Warranty Form, with a cover sheet addressed clearly "Attn. Wheeler Winston Dixon," to this telephone number: (402) 472 9771.

Please do embed any photographs in your manuscript, or send them as attachments or on CD-ROM.

Quarterly Review of Film and Video accepts essays in MLA or Chicago formats. Footnotes and/or endnotes are permitted. If using MLA format, please use parenthetical citations throughout the text, and a list of works cited at the end. All film titles are underlined, with date of production directly following in parentheses. Use MLA Handbook, 5th Edition; or, if in Chicago format, the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th Edition.

Please be very careful to include ALL PAGE NUMBERS on works cited. If using MLA style, articles in journals, or in anthologies, must be listed with the COMPLETE INCLUSIVE pagination of the article or essay in the Works Cited section. Similarly, all quotes within your essay must be followed immediately by a parenthetical citation from the work in question, for example: (Sarris 35).

For those who use British style sheets, we require the FULL NAME of all authors listed in the Works Cited, (never Sarris, A., for example, but Sarris, Andrew), and REGULAR QUOTES (" ") for all quotes used within the article.

THE ENTIRE TEXT, INCLUDING WORKS CITED, MUST BE DOUBLE-SPACED. There must be NO single-spaced material in the essay of any kind, including indented textual citations within an essay, author blurb, or any other materials.

USE NO ITALICS AT ANY TIME except for emphasis; book titles and film titles are underlined, and articles are in quotes. USE NO PAGE BREAKS.

Please include complete phone, fax, e-mail and full work and home address, and a brief biographical blurb with departmental affiliation and rank.

Please make certain that all the above material is on the CD-ROM, not just the manuscript itself, but also the author address, blurb, and other details.

Please submit the article as ONE document, with all the required materials at the end of your essay. Do not split your essay into separate files.

Ideal length: 20 pages minimum to 35 pages maximum, double spaced. Book reviews run 5 -10 pages, double spaced.

Author Copies: The corresponding author of each essay will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which the essay appears. Additional reprints of the essay may be purchased from the publisher. A reprint order form is supplied with the issue; if you would like to order reprints, return the form to the publisher.

Please mail entire article, CD-ROM in Mac or IBM format, with hard copy printout and signed transfer of copyright form to:

Terms of Acceptance

Submission of a manuscript is taken to imply that the paper represents original work not previously published, is not being considered elsewhere for publication in the same form, in any language, without the consent of the publisher. It is also assumed that the author has obtained all necessary permissions to include in the paper such as quotations, etc. It is a condition of acceptance for publication that the publisher acquires copyright of the paper throughout the world. The Editors reserve the right to modify phrasing and punctuation in all articles accepted for publication. Signed articles represent the views of the authors. Quarterly Review of Film and Video and the editors take no responsibility for statements, either fact or opinion, made by contributors.

Early Electronic Offprints

Corresponding authors can now receive their article by e-mail as a complete PDF. This allows the author to print up to 50 copies, free of charge, and disseminate them to colleagues. In many cases this facility will be available up to two weeks prior to publication. Or, alternatively, corresponding authors will receive the traditional 50 offprints. A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all corresponding authors after publication. Additional copies of the journal can be purchased at the author's preferential rate of £15.00/$25.00 per copy.

Proofs and Reprints

No page proofs will be sent to authors; all copy-editing will be done by the editors-in-chief. Reprints of individual articles can be ordered online.
