Initial Submission of Manuscripts

International Interactions is interested in publishing articles that make theoretical and empirical advances in the scientific study of conflict and political economy. Articles concerned primarily with reviewing literature or making normative policy prescriptions will not be considered.

Manuscripts should be no more than 40 pages for full-length articles and no more than 17 pages for research notes and commentaries. Manuscripts should be double-spaced and written in 12 point font. They should also be in either Microsoft Word (.doc, not .docx) or PDF only. Please send us one identifiable and one anonymous manuscript. We assume that the submission has not been published elsewhere and is not being simultaneously reviewed by any other journal. Discovery of the contrary will lead to a halt of the review process.

All manuscripts accepted for publication will be restricted in length. As a guideline, authors should plan for full manuscripts to be approximately 10,000-11,000 words in length (inclusive). Research notes will be approximately 5,000-6,000 words in length.

International Interactions receives all manuscript submissions electronically via their ScholarOne Manuscripts website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/gini. ScholarOne Manuscripts allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. For ScholarOne Manuscripts technical support, you may contact them by e-mail or phone support via http://scholarone.com/services/support/. If you have any other requests please contact the journal at ps-intinteract@illinois.edu.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary reduction. Captions should be double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Citations, Footnotes, and References

Where simple citations are involved, do not use footnotes. Use author's name and publication date in the text, in parentheses, referring to the “References” section at the end of the article. If only certain pages within the references are being cited, indicate these within the parentheses. Substantive footnotes should be numbered consecutively with the text appearing at the end of the typescript on a separate page. Place an alphabetical list of references immediately after the footnotes. References should follow the form of the International Studies Association (ISA). Please consult the ISA style guide at http://www.indiana.edu/~iuisq/docs/style.pdf for guidance in the styling of references.

Proofs and Offprints
Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). Corrections are limited to printer's errors — no substantial author's changes will be made. The corresponding author of each article will receive 3 copies of the issue in which the article appears. The corresponding author is responsible for distribution of copies to co-authors. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a means of making your article more visible to anyone who might be looking for it. Please consult our guidance here.
