Notes for Contributors

International Interactions is an interdisciplinary journal publishing original empirical, analytic, and/or theoretical research in the general field of international relations. The journal has particular interest in research that focuses upon the broad range of relations and interactions among the actors in the global system. Articles on methodology and various analytical aspects of international relations and foreign policy are also welcome, as are shorter research pieces that would benefit from rapid dissemination. Book reviews will not ordinarily be accepted for review, although review essays of general theoretical interest may be submitted.

Initial Submission of Manuscripts:

Authors should mail one anonymous copy and one author attribution copy of a manuscript to Kristin Johnson at the University of Rhode Island:

Kristin Johnson
Department of Political Science
129 Washburn Hall, Kingston RI 02881

Authors can also send manuscripts via email to internationalinteractions@gmail.com.

Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. For questions or style, please consult The Chicago Manual of Style. All parts of the manuscript should be double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. The opening page should contain only the title of the article. Each article should be summarized in an abstract and up to six keywords. Original artwork and figures should not be sent at this time, but clear copies should be included. Retain a complete copy of the manuscript, as we cannot assume responsibility for the loss or injury of unsolicited manuscripts or artwork.

Final Preparation after Acceptance:

Authors are expected to provide 2 copies of the final version, conforming to the standards laid out above. Authors of data-based articles in this journal should indicate how investigators may obtain their data, as well as other information necessary to replicate the reported results, e.g., in which public archives such information has been deposited or, in the case of multiple authors, which author to write . Authors should remove information from their datasets that must remain confidential, such as the identity of survey respondents. Investigators always have the right to first publication and, on rare occasions, may wish to embargo the data (or a portion of it) while they finish publishing from it; these authors must specify a date by which a replication dataset will be publicly available.

Symbols

Submit a list of any special symbols with the manuscript. The list is to aid the typesetter, not to define the symbols mathematically, and will not appear in print.

Equations

Mathematical equations should be presented with superscripts and subscripts clearly indicated. All equations will be set in italics unless otherwise indicated; symbols or letters to be set in Roman (upright) type should be underlined; bold letters should be shown by a wavy underline.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary reduction. Captions should be double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

Citations, Footnotes, and References

Where simple citations are involved, do not use footnotes. Use author's name and publication date in the text, in parentheses, referring to the “References” section at the end of the article. If only certain pages within the references are being cited, indicate these within the parentheses. Substantive footnotes should be numbered consecutively with the text appearing at the end of the typescript on a separate page. Place an alphabetical list of references immediately after the footnotes. References should follow in these forms:

Journal: Miller, Warren D. and Donald E. Stokes (1963). “Constituency Influence in Congress.” American Political Review, Vol. 57, pp. 45-46.

Book: Mills, C. Wright (1961a). The Sociological Imagination. New York: Grove. Use a, b, etc. to distinguish between works by the same author published in one year. For further information, consult The Chicago Manual of Style.

Proofs and Offprints

Page proofs are sent to the designated author using Taylor & Francis' Central Article Tracking System (CATS). Corrections are limited to printer's errors — no substantial author's changes will be made. The corresponding author of each article will receive 3 copies of the issue in which the article appears. The corresponding author is responsible for distribution of copies to co-authors. Reprints of individual articles are available for order at the time authors review page proofs.
