Instructions for Authors

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

Submission of articles to Global Crime will be taken to imply that the work has not been published previously in any form, that it is not being considered for publication elsewhere. If another version of the article is under consideration by another publication, or has been, or will be published elsewhere, authors should indicate this clearly at the time of submission. Authors will be informed at the earliest possible date of our readers' decisions and every effort will be made to expedite this process.

Ideally, your submission should be in the form of an email attachment in Word or a compatible format, and sent to GlobalCrime@gmail.com.

FORM AND LENGTH

Manuscripts should be word processed with wide margins (1 inch or 2.5 cm) on A4 or letter-sized paper. Pages of each copy must be numbered sequentially. Type section headings all in capitals and underlined, ranged left; for sub-section headings only the first letter of main words should be capitalised and the entire heading underlined. In either case, the text should start on the next line.

Articles longer than 10,000 words will be accepted only in exceptional cases. We are also looking for shorter Research Reports of no more than 2,000 words, such as conference reports and review papers, shorter pieces on methodological advances or research findings and field reports from law enforcement officials. Beyond that, we will be publishing Debates on key issues as well as Book Reviews of the latest works.

For anonymity in the review process, please put the names, affiliations, and complete mailing addresses (including e-mail and telephone) for each author on a separate title page, as well as a short (c. 100 words) biographical note for each contributor. If affiliations differ, list addresses separately beneath each author's name. Indicate which author will check proofs. Authors should also provide an abbreviation of the article's title (no more than 35 characters) for use as a running head. Include acknowledgments under a separate head at the article's end, before the reference list.

Each article should be accompanied by an abstract of no more than 150 words presented on a separate sheet. Abstracts should also be accompanied by up to 6 key words or phrases that characterise the contents of the article. These will be used for indexing and data retrieval purposes.

FIGURES

All figures should be numbered with consecutive arabic numerals, have descriptive captions, and be mentioned in the text. Keep figures separate from the text, but indicate an approximate position for each in the margin. It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission for any reproduction of other sources. Figures must be of high enough quality for direct reproduction, prepared in black (india) ink on white (or tracing) paper, with all lettering and symbols included. Alternatively, good sharp photoprints (or "glossies") are acceptable. Photographs must be good glossy original prints of maximum contrast. Using pencil, clearly label each figure with the author's name and figure number: Indicate top where this is not obvious. Redrawing or retouching of unusable figures will be charged to authors. Figures should be submitted as close to final size as possible to minimise reduction; figures will be sized to a maximum of 5 inches (12.5 cm) wide or less, according to subject matter. Artwork should be labeled so that after reduction, lettering does not exceed 1/8 inch (4 mm) in height.

TABLES

Tables should be kept to a minimum and contain only essential data. Tables should be typed on separate sheets, numbered consecutively with arabic numerals. Include a short descriptive caption at the top, capitalizing the first letter of the first word. Indicate in the text where tables are to appear. Avoid the use of vertical rules. Extensive and/or complex tables and computer printouts will be reproduced as illustrations. Therefore, they should be typed carefully and in the exact format desired.
