Submission of Manuscripts

Books for review should be submitted to either Marcus Power at marcus.power@durham.ac.uk or Merje Kuus at
kuus@geog.ubc.ca.

Articles submitted should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. There is no maximum length for articles, but 6,000-7,000 words is a useful target. Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts by electronic means as Word format attachments. Each typescript should be submitted in duplicate, typewritten on one side only, and double-spaced throughout (including notes). It should conform to the journal style outlined below. Authors should provide (1) an abstract of 100-150 words describing in general terms contents and conclusions of the article, and (2) brief biographical details including institutional affiliation. Any acknowledgements should appear at the foot of the first page of the article. Pages, including those containing illustrations, diagrams, or tables, should be numbered consecutively.

The final accepted version should be submitted on an IBM-compatible virus-free disc. ASCII or RTF versions are the best alternative. Discs should be labeled with the author's name, title of article, the software used, and the file-name of the article.

Illustrations

Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included.
Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet.

Notes

Notes should be kept to a minimum and numbered consecutively through the article with a numeral corresponding to the list of notes placed at the end. In this list, numbers should be followed by a full point, not a bracket. Harvard-style and bibliographical references are unacceptable.

Books: author's name as it appears on the book's title page, title underlined, with capitals for principle words, place of publication: publisher and date in parentheses, page reference:

In notes, abbreviate Aug. to Feb.; Spell out March to July.

Proofs

One set of page proofs is sent to the designated corresponding author. Proofs should be checked and returned promptly.

Offprints

Each corresponding author will receive 1 copy of the issue in which their article appears and 25 reprints of their article upon registration with Rightslink, our authorized reprint provider. Authors will need to create a unique account and register with Rightslink for this free service. The link is provided at the time of page proof review. Complimentary reprints are not available post publication.
