Instructions for Authors

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

Manuscripts, ideally between 4000 and 8000 words, should be sent to the Editor, Oxford Review of Education, University of Oxford Department of Educational Studies, 15 Norham Gardens, Oxford OX2 6PY, United Kingdom. Articles can only be considered if three complete copies of each manuscript are submitted. They should be typed on one side of A4 paper, double spaced, with ample margins, and bear the title of the contribution, name(s) of the author(s) and the address where the work was carried out. Each article should be accompanied by an abstract of 100-200 words on a separate sheet, and a short note of biographical details for the 'Notes on Contributors' page. Contributors should bear in mind that they are addressing an international audience. Drafts of papers which can be accessed on individual/personal websites will be regarded as unpublished. However 'working papers' or 'formal reports' on institutional or quasi-institutional websites which are specifically designed to publicise findings and act as dissemination vehicles will be regarded as 'previously published'. Authors should ensure that papers submitted to the journal are substantially different from such working papers and reports, summarising and referring to them as appropriate, but not repeating them verbatim. The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included. All pages should be numbered.

Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible.

Tables and captions to illustrations. Tables must be typed out on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate sheet. Tables and figures should be numbered by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols.

Figures. Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher.

References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name, with the year of publication in parentheses. If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, a, b, c, etc. should be put after the year of publication. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form:

For books: Kress, G. (2003) Literacy in the new media age (London, Routledge).

For articles: Cremin, L. A. (1983) The problematics of education in the 1980s: some reflections on the Oxford Workshop, Oxford Review of Education, 9, 33-40.

For chapters within books: Willis, P. (1983) Cultural production and theories of reproduction, in: L. Barton & S. Walker (Eds) Race, class and education (London, Croom Helm), 25-50.

We strongly encourage you to send the final, revised version of your article, electronically, by email. More help and guidelines on submitting articles already accepted for publication. Please note that this information applies only to authors whose articles have been reviewed, revised, and accepted for publication.

Proofs will be sent to authors if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the Editor within three days. Major alterations to the text cannot be accepted.

Free article access: Corresponding authors will receive free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article.
