Instructions for Authors
Oxford Development Studies publishes relevant articles on worldwide development issues which are of interest to an international audience. Submissions that fall within the journal's scope are welcomed.
Manuscripts. All submissions should be made online at Oxford Development Studies' Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site, submissions should be made via the Author Centre. Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text; in the second, all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. Authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as "File not for review" when uploading files.
All submissions will be independently refereed. Shorter notes, which may refer to articles appearing in earlier issues, will also be published, although it will be policy to refer these both to referees and the original author. Articles should be double spaced, with ample margins, and bear the title of the contribution. All pages should be numbered. Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible. An abstract of 150 words should be included.
The full postal address of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints should also be included.
Tables and captions must be typed out on separate sheets and not included as part of the text. Tables and figures should be numbered by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols and should be grouped together.
Figures and line drawings should be of a quality suitable for printing and will not normally be redrawn by the publisher.
Equations. If equations other than very standard or simple ones (for example, identities) are used, the author should include with the paper step-by-step accounts of how these were derived, to assist referees. (These workings will not be published.)
References should be indicated in the typescript by giving the author's name, with the year of publication in parentheses. If several papers by the same author and from the same year are cited, (a), (b), (c), etc. should be put after the year of publication. Titles of journals should not be abbreviated. The references should be listed in full at the end of the paper in the following standard form:
Books, monographs:
Kuznets, S. (1969) Modern Economic Growth: Rate, Structure and Spread (New Haven, CT, Yale University Press).
Multi-author volumes:
Weinshenk, G. (1985) Implications of non-monetary objectives in the agricultural policy of the European Economic Community, in: G. L. Johnson & S. Tangerman (Eds) Agriculture and International Relations (London, Macmillan).
Journal articles:
Tangerman, S., Josling, T.E. & Pearson, S.R. (1987) Multilateral negotiations on farm support levels, World Economy, 10, pp. 265-281.
Proofs will be sent to authors, if there is sufficient time to do so. They should be corrected and returned to the publisher within three days. Major alterations or revisions cannot be accepted.

Corresponding authors can receive 50 free reprints, free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article.
