Instructions for Authors:

***Note to Authors: please make sure your contact address information is clearly visible on the outside of all packages you are sending to Editors.***

National Identities is subject to a peer review process and is published four times a year. Key themes are the relationship of identity and ethnicity, the role in forging identity of cultural (language, gender, religion, architecture, the media, sport, encounters with 'the other', etc.) and political (state forms, wars, boundaries) factors, by examining the ways in which these have been shaped and changed over time, and the transmission and persistence of national identities, and we welcome articles relevant to these themes dealing with any period of history, or even pre-history.

Articles submitted to the journal should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time.

Each manuscript should be submitted as an email attachment, preferably in Microsoft Word format, along with one paper copy, to the appropriate Editor as listed below. Articles should be double-spaced throughout, with the pages, including those containing illustrative material, numbered sequentially.

Articles should be no longer than 8,000 words and should be prefaced by a 100 word abstract. Authors should also provide a list of approximately 5 or 6 keywords, along with brief biographical details, institutional affiliations, and full correspondence address (to include an e-mail address if possible).

Editorial correspondence, including manuscripts for submission, should be addressed as follows:

  • Peter Catterall (politics/political history), History Department, Queen Mary, University of London, Mile End Road, London, E1 4NS, UK; Email: p.p.catterall@qmul.ac.uk
