Journal of Further and Higher Education
Instructions for Authors
All submissions should be made online at the Journal of Further and Higher Education's Manuscript Central site. New users should first create an account. Once a user is logged onto the site submissions should be made via the Author Centre.
Authors should prepare and upload two versions of their manuscript. One should be a complete text, while in the second all document information identifying the author should be removed from files to allow them to be sent anonymously to referees. When uploading files authors will then be able to define the non-anonymous version as "File not for review".
Articles should:
- Take into account the audience and readership of the journal, which includes, practitioners, researchers and policy makers, both in the United Kingdom and internationally
- Observe the conventions of accepted English usage, unless there is a good reason for not doing so, e.g. reported every day speech
- Have a title which reflects its contents accurately and briefly. Please remember that the words in the title will be used in digital retrieval and make sure that good 'search terms' are included in the title.
- Be not more than 4000 words in length
- Be preceded by an abstract of 250 words maximum
- Be arranged in sections with sub-headings where possible to guide readers to the main business of each section.
- Be double spaced.
- Have a separate front page showing title, author names and contact details, which can be removed for anonymisation
- Include the full name, affiliation, postal address, e-mail address, and full international contact details of the author who will check proofs and receive correspondence and offprints.
Tables and captions to figures and illustrations. Tables must be uploaded as separate files and not included as part of the text. The captions to figures and illustrations should be made clear. Tables and figures should be numbered by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols.
Figures. Please supply all figures electronically, preferably as a JPEG or TIFF file, and at a suitable resolution for reproduction.
Abstracts should appear on the manuscript document itself as well as entered again on the Manuscript Central submission site.
