Referencing should follow the modern scientific convention. Notes should be numbered in sequence and included at the end of the text. Bibliographic references in the text should list the author's last name, date of publication, and number of page, e.g. (Fox, 1967:56). Extended references should be listed alphabetically at the end of the paper, e.g.:
Fox, R. 1967. Kinship and marriage. Harmondsworth: Penguin Books.
Linehan, W.A. 1936. A history of Pahang. Journal of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, 14(2), 1-257.
Text figures and maps should be drawn on strong paper, white card, or good quality tracing film. Figures and maps should be titled and numbered; originals should be numbered in pencil only. A list of captions to figures and tables should be provided on a separate sheet.
It is important that authors should submit accurate, well-prepared copy ready for publication. Re-drawing of maps or figures cannot be undertaken by the editors, who may return unsuitable work to contributors for representation in an improved form.
Because of our method of production we cannot post proofs to authors for checking. However, the editors will proof-read copy and make every effort to ensure that no errors go forward.
The submission of a paper will be taken to imply that it has not been published, or submitted for publication, elsewhere. In some cases consideration will be given to papers already published, but details of the other publication and of the copyright should be given at the time of submission.
Free article access: Corresponding authors can receive 50 free reprints, free online access to their article through our website (www.informaworld.com) and a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Complimentary reprints are available through Rightslink® and additional reprints can be ordered through Rightslink® when proofs are received.
