Four (4) copies of each manuscript should be submitted together with a disk if possible and an abstract of no more than 150 words. Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced and on one side of good quality standard A4 (8.25 x 11.75in., 21 x 29cm or near equivalent) paper. Final copies of accepted material will be required to conform to the journal's house style.

Format for final approved copy: submitted articles should not exceed 7,000 words. An extra line space should be left between paragraphs. Titles, subtitles and text subheadings should be chosen for succinctness, and underlined. Quotations in the text should be indented from both margins, and single spaced. Footnotes should be numbered serially throughout the text by superscript numbers, and typed together on a separate page at the end. Footnoting should conform to the following system.

First Book Citation:
J. Cable, Britain's Naval Future, London: Macmillan, 1983, p. 102.

Subsequent Book Citations:
Cable, Britain's Naval Future., pp. 163-65.

First Article Citation:
D. Ross, Considering Soviet threats to the Persian Gulf.
International Security 6(2), 1981, p.164.

Subsequent Article Citations:
Ross, Considering Soviet threats to the Persian Gulf, pp. 163-67.

The use of ibid. and op. cit should be used where appropriate. All authors should always be included in a first reference and the convention et al. used thereafter. The form of other footnote references should conform to the conventions contained in K. Turabian, A Manual for Writers (London, Heinemann, 1982; British Edition); see especially chapters 6, 8 and 9. Tables, diagrams, figures and graphs should be clearly laid out on a separate sheet of paper, their position clearly indicated in the text.
