Instructions for Authors
The Editorial Board invites contributions, normally of around 7,000 words, dealing with international or analytically comparative aspects of education, highlighting such themes as:
- educational reform and practical problems of implementation;
- implications of demographic change and the distribution of resources;
- structural and geographical shifts in employment and professional expectations;
- the changing 'mix' of 'general' and vocational/professional' education;
- occupational mobility and regional or international co-operation;
- post-compulsory and 'young adult' education;
- part-time, recurrent or alternating education/training;
- new structures and operational patterns in higher education;
- the management and supply of educational opportunity, and its location or periodicity;
- the media and new communications or technologies in education;
- curricular content, and the learner's experience;
- teacher preparation and reorientation;
- education for the disadvantaged, or in neglected fields of competence;
- ideological and religious interventions;
- new trends and partnerships in comparative research.
Suggestions of themes for articles and/or special issues are welcomed.
Manuscripts for consideration should be emailed to the journal's Editorial Co-ordinator Lesley Wheway via the following email l.wheway270@canterbury.ac.uk.
Manuscripts for consideration should be submitted electronically as an email attachment in a word processed document with double spacing and wide margins. The manuscript should begin with a short abstract and bear the title of the contribution. The document should include a header showing the title and date of the submission so that the most up to date version can be identified. The page numbers should appear in the header using ‘Page 1 of 1' format and the manuscript should be anonymous to allow for blind peer-review.
The manuscript should be supported by a separate word processed document saved using the heading “author(s) name_biography”. The document should begin with the full postal address, email address and telephone number of the author who will check proofs, receive correspondence and offprints. The second part of the ‘biography' document should include the name(s) of the author(s), the address where the work was carried out and a summary of 100-150 words which is a short note of biographical details on each author for the 'Notes on Contributors' page.
Footnotes to the text should be avoided wherever this is reasonably possible.
Tables and captions to illustrations. The electronic file should include ‘tables' or ‘captions' in the saved title. Tables must be typed out on separate pages and not included as part of the main text. The captions to illustrations should be gathered together and also typed out on a separate page. Tables and figures should be numbered by Arabic numerals. The approximate position of tables and figures should be indicated in the manuscript. Captions should include keys to symbols.
Figures. The electronic file should include ‘figures' in the saved title. Please supply one set of artwork in a finished form, suitable for reproduction. Figures will not normally be redrawn by the publisher.
As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a new figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). For further information and FAQs, please see http://journalauthors.tandf.co.uk/preparation/permission.asp
Citations of other work should be limited to those strictly necessary for the argument. Any quotations should be brief, and accompanied by precise references.
