Public Library Quarterly
Instructions for Authors
Aims and Scope. This journal addresses the major administrative challenges and opportunities that face the nation's public libraries, providing insight and assistance to all public library workers. Every issue of Public Library Quarterly contains informative articles written by the directors and staffs of leading public libraries, news of current public library events, and book reviews covering issues of interest to those in public library work. Surveys that can be developed and used as national benchmarks for such administrative concerns as salaries, usage standards, and budget breakdowns are also published, making PLQ a valued tool at budget and review time.
Submission of Manuscripts. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts electronically. If submitting a disk, it should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program.
Manuscripts should be submitted to glenholt@sbcglobal.net. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. As an author, you are required to secure permission if you want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source. This applies to direct reproduction as well as "derivative reproduction" (where you have created a enw figure or table which derives substantially from a copyrighted source). All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text in the abstract.
References. References, citations, and general style of manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. Cite in the text by author and date (Smith 1983) and include an alphabetical list at the end of the article.
