- Clinical care in a variety of settings
- The organization of treatment services
- Preclinical and clinical research, including therapeutic interventions and behavior studies
- Medical complications associated with drug abuse
- Substance abuse among specific groups or populations
- Applied science research
- Policy issues
In addition, Substance Abuse publishes proceedings papers from the annual AMERSA meeting, book reviews, and letters to the editor. The journal's multidisciplinary editorial board represents the full strength and range of AMERSA's experience and teaching.
