A journal for information professionals who work with managing electronic resources in libraries

The Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship (renamed from The Acquisitions Librarian to reflect the journal's broader focus) provides a much-needed scholarly forum for librarians and other information professionals. This peer-reviewed quarterly journal addresses evolving work-related processes and procedure, current research, and the latest news on topics related to electronic resources and the digital environment's impact on collecting, acquiring, and making accessible library materials. The journal provides opinion pieces, the latest news, book reviews, conference presentations, and e-resources related updates.

The Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship strives to find a balance between original, scholarly research, and practical communications about relevant topics in electronic resources librarianship. The journal presents practice-related articles, editorials, and columns on vital topics of interest. Recurring features include:
  • News from the Grid—an opinion column on various library events and the topics they cover
  • Theory & Practice—a column about e-resource librarianship in current library and information science education
  • Second Opinion—commentary on a range of issues in electronic resources librarianship
  • Memo from the Systems Office—a column from a systems perspective that considers ways to increase access to e-resources and how to best improve the systems

Topics discussed in the Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship include:

  • assessment and evaluation of e-resources
  • collection planning
  • balancing electronic with print
  • determining the value of e-resources
  • policies and procedures in maintenance of digital resources and collections
  • managing digital collections, including licensing, negotiation, and alternatives
  • stewardship and preservation of e-resources
  • standards
  • cross-functional work/workflow
  • library-vendor relations
  • user preferences and expectations
